Today was a productive day of dividing out the work and getting a kick start on some researches.
Here is how we divided up the works:
Laura -- first half of the French Rev
Jeremiah -- last half of the French Rev
Me -- any important figures during the French Rev
So far, I have found some books and articles of Thomas Paine and shall continue to read and research more figures.
01/18/11 Day 2
Couldn't get much done because of Kehaya Dorm party.
Shame....
01/19/11 Day 3
Doing AP and Satire Rewrite...
but fear not Mr. Mettee, I'm going to read my research in the dim light of the moon after lights are all extinguished.
01/20~21/11 Day 4&5
SAT PREP. 2400? haha....
01/23/11 Day 6
Jeremiah scored us an interview with an UNCA professor who has a Phd in French Revolution.
Meanwhile, I've researched on Thomas Paine and waiting for more people assignment from both J&L.
Thomas Paine :
He was and influential figure for both the American Revolution and the French Revolution. Paine has some contradictory reputations. One hailing him as and "Apostle of Freedom" and the other condemning him as a "drunken Atheist and radical troublemaker." Yet it is undeniable that he has written many works such as the Common Sense, Rights of Man and The Age of Reason. These works of "freedom formulas" are inspired by great Enlightenment figures such as John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Certainly this is why traces of Locke and Rousseau can be found in both America and France's revolutionary documents. The Common Sense is known for his attack on hereditary monarchy and his support for human freedom. This inspirational piece propelled the American congress's Declaration of Independence. He continued to use his pen to promote French-American alliance and continue to politically tackle France. The publication of Rights of Man, "a human rights manifesto," is what made Paine a principal defender of France's ongoing revolution.
